Naseby - Molten Magnets - 29/4 - 1/5

Updated: May 17, 2023

Yet another brilliant weekend racing with loads of positives for the club. Arrived on a damp Friday afternoon to set up camp and were joined by Dean (Tine came later + dogs), Beth and Cat (for their first camping outing with us) then later Jemma and Ash. The rest of the club came early Saturday morning. The weekend was a long one as it was a bank holiday so racing on Saturday and Sunday with Multibreed, singles and pairs on Monday. Luckily for us the weather brightened up and we were lucky enough not to be showered on until racing was finished every day.

Saturdays racing for us consisted of Wash Warriors and Amazon Warriors (our new starters team).

Wash ran first with Stan, Zarah, Pip and Bessie carrying the flag. The first race of the day we ran against Puparazzi and set a new seed time of 18.65 (twice). The rest of the day consisted of 19 sec times apart from 2x20 sec times and when we had to re-run dogs. We won 3 of the 5 races throughout the day and came home with a 3rd place having been seeded 6th (last) in the division. Both Pip and Bessie clocked personal best times of 4.37 s and 4.15 s respectively (Bessie on her 4th birthday).

When open racing was finished Amazon Warriors debuted with Maggie, Naya, Remi and Scout. Naya and Remi (the 2 standard poodles) and Scout (poodle x old english sheepdog) were running for the first time, Naya being the most enthusiastic of the 3!! Maggie settled down very quickly as she's getting to be an old hand at this, bringing her ball back the majority of the time and doing nice box turns. As we were running unsanctioned the dogs were allowed to pick up off the floor which is why the other 3 could come out to play. Naya proved herself very quickly almost not missing a beat. With a lot of encouragement (& a very manky tennis ball for Remi) we managed to get the other 2 to complete full runs and they all seemed to enjoy themselves.

We celebrated in the usual Wash style with a BBQ after racing, joined by Neil (Tine's dad) followed by attending Molten's quiz in the evening. One of our teams managed to hold up the rest of the attendees by coming last, but we still came away with a booby prize which is more than the other team did!! Ollie, probably the youngest in the room, also won the heads or tails game that was run whilst the results of the quiz were calculated. A real win!!!

Sunday put Vikings in to bat along with Brave Warriors (the more experienced starters team).

Vikings (Blue, Bonnie, Jack, Flo and Charly) also managed to win 3 of their 5 races also logging a new seed time of 20.31 s for these dogs. Blue also put in a pb of 4.22 s (what he'll do once he perfects his turn is anyone's guess). At presentation these dogs managed to come 2nd in the div having been seeded 5th out of 6, so yet another win.

Brave Warriors - Eddie, Mabel, Jessie - were joined by Lottie this time for her first real team run. We were disappointed that the lights were removed before the starters began as we were really hoping to get dog times, but they all ran really well. Lottie did brilliantly for her first real taste of full team racing complete with box turns and not even looking to chase. We were really surprised when the team managed a 3rd place in the division.

Although Beth, Cat, Gem, Martin, Jack and Ollie had to leave us during Sunday the rest of us, including Neil again, had a celebratory club meal before turning in for the night.

Monday dawned a bit damp but this was going to be a first for Jessie who was debuting in open singes racing for the first time after the Multibreed competition.

The Apache multibreed team consisted of Bonnie (ESS), Stan(Patt Terr), Zarah(BC) and Bessie (ECS), with Jack(WSS) on the sheet as a back up dog (although in the end he wasn't required). Bonnie was on starts and Jemma did really well with these, even managing one roller! Zarah proved to be on fire today throwing in a fastest time of 4.51 s and managing to average under 5 s for the first time in a long time. The team also won 3 of their 5 races posting a new seed time of 18.90 s and also managing a 2nd place (seeded 4 of 6).

Jessie completed her 2 races posting a fastest time of 4.60 s and also managed a 3rd place in her division.

It really was an amazing weekend (3 new seed times, 3pb's, 2x2nds and 3x3rds). Thank you to Bhavnesh Patel and all of Moltens for a fab time. Roll on the next comp.
